ABOK ABOK

A Malay dessert made of sago*, gula melaka and coconut. They are wrapped in banana leaves in a cone shape and steamed.

* "sago" are small pearls made of tapioca

ingredients

  • 1 cup pearl sago (washed & drained)

  • 200g chopped Gula Melaka

  • ½ tbsp salt

  • 100g grated coconut

  • Pandan leaves 

  • Banana leaves

Steps

  1. Cut banana leaves into 12-15 cm square, depending on your preferred size.

  2. Prepare a steamer half filled with water.

  3. Add pandan leaves into water while gradually adding in the sago, coconut and salt then mixing it well.

  4. Roll banana leaf into a cone shape and secure it with a toothpick.

  5. Place 1 tbsp of the mixture into the cone. Add 1tsp of gula melaka and 1tbsp of sago on top of the mixture. Seal the top with another toothpick,

  6. Steam for 15-20 minutes.
